Connect, Create, Cairo: Build a City with History & Technology
Ismaili Centre Toronto, Canada (November 15- February 28, 2014-2015)
Ismaili Centre Vancouver, Vancouver, Canada (January 16-24, 2016)
Curated and developed by Zulfikar Hirji, the exhibition is a community-build exhibition produced in the context of an enhanced, experiential learning environment. Participants are introduced to the changing urban footprint of historic Cairo from its founding to the present-day in order to explore the changing urban fabric of cities. Through a series of facilitated experiential learning workshops using 3D printing technology, participants build their own city dwellings on an existing historical streetscape. The resulting exhibition reveals how connecting to city’s past can generate questions and inspire creative thinking about urban futures.
